North Korea Needs the Bible

North Korean Testimony

When I was in school [in North Korea], I had never read a book. I got scored by threatening teachers with a knife. I really hated reading that much. I graduated from school and lived as a robber, hitting and harassing many people to become famous in the neighborhood.

One day, I was angry without any reason and couldn’t control my anger. So I took people hostage, beat them, threatened them and harassed them. I couldn’t sleep well every night because I had no peace. One day, I really couldn’t sleep.

At that moment, I happened to see the Bible I got from my friend. I opened it and read it.

I don’t know why peace came to me and I slept well. The next day, I wanted to read the Bible so much that I found an unobstructed place and went up to the roof of the building to read it.

I read the Bible for three days. And I, who did not believe in God, called God for the first time.

I didn’t know anyone who had the same experience as me, and I didn’t know what a Christian was. I did not even know the repentance prayer, but God changed my life after I read the Bible. After that, I asked forgiveness from those who were harassed by me, and I stopped my habits of drinking alcohol every morning, and no longer wanted to rob.

From then on, I wanted to think about who God is. Those who knew me before thought I had become crazy. People did not believe that I had changed.

Surprisingly, only my friends who robbed with me believed my change. They told people that I was changed as a Christian.

They came to me and I prayed for them. I [have] been in prison many times because of praying [for] my friends. I was persecuted and beaten in prison, but did not blame anybody.
